South Carolina Gas Prices Hit $4.03 as Iran War Disrupts Global Oil Supply

Trump Blames Others as SC Gas Hits $4.03

AAA reported South Carolina regular gas averaging $4.03 per gallon on Oct. 6, 2026, up from $2.79 a year earlier — an increase of about $1.24, or 44%. Diesel rose from $3.38 to $5.83. Trump has blamed Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries and refinery closures in Democratic-led states, while Reuters reports the Iran war has disrupted access through the Strait of Hormuz, which normally carries about one-fifth of global oil shipments.

Gas prices were 44% lower before Trump's Iran War

The biggest factor in gasoline prices is crude oil. Crude oil is the biggest component of gasoline prices. The Iran conflict sharply disrupted shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil routes. Before the conflict, about one-fifth of global petroleum consumption moved through the strait. EIA estimates flows fell from about 21.6 million barrels per day in Q4 2025 to 4.9 million in Q2 2026. Reduced supply, refinery disruptions and higher shipping costs have helped push pump prices higher in South Carolina, throughout the U.S., and internationally.

About

SC GOP Tracker keeps tabs on what South Carolina Republican elected officials, candidates and political leaders are saying, doing and putting on the record.

We gather publicly available statements, votes, policy positions, interviews, social media posts, news coverage and other source material, then bring it together in one place with relevant context.

Each Tracker Entry is built to be clear, easy to follow and easy to verify — with links to the original reporting, public records, video, social posts or other supporting sources whenever possible.

The idea is simple: you shouldn’t have to dig through dozens of websites, news stories and social media feeds to keep up with what South Carolina Republicans are saying and doing.

As new statements, votes, policies and developments emerge, SC GOP Tracker will keep adding to the record.
