Bootlicker Fry introduced EASE Act for the president to declare a national emergency on ending gas tax

GOP: U.S. Representative Russell Fry (SC-07)

Fry aims for temporary suspension of Federal Gas Tax — nice idea, but it's really just for show!

On October 1, 2026, U.S. Rep. Russell Fry (SC-07) introduced the Presidential Emergency Action to Stabilize Energy (EASE) Act, allowing the president to suspend the federal gas tax during a national fuel-supply emergency. The suspension would initially last 60 days and could be extended once for up to 60 additional days, for a maximum of 120 days. The tax on gasoline and diesel would drop to zero, with lost revenue covered by the Treasury General Fund.

Fry should first focus on decreasing the SC state gas tax which is higher than the federal rate

Another manufactured crisis – if DT did not start an unnecessary war with Iran in the first place… The current oil price is tied to the U.S. war with Iran begun in February 2026. The EASE Act proposes suspending the federal gas tax, but it would not remove state tax. Whether that provides meaningful relief remains to be seen, and it’s unlikely to be passed at the federal level. In September, the president said that oil prices that have surged because of the war and won’t come down until after the midterms. Federal gas tax = 18.4 cents per gallon, SC state gasoline tax = 28.75 cents per gallon.
